Belize

Belize travelBelize Mountains, monuments, jaguars and jungles; rivers, reefs, sunshine and sparkling sea. You’ll find all this and more in this remarkably rich, diverse and tiny country. Off the coast of Belize, you’ll find the second largest barrier reef in the world (only Australia’s is larger). Adorned by a string of idyllic tropical islands called “cayes (kays)”, the reef is a natural monument of underwater joys. The waters offer incredible world-class diving, snorkeling and fishing. Inland, dense rainforests are a sanctuary to many kinds of wildlife, while almost hiding some of the most magnificent Mayan ruins to be found. From the Garifuna people who inhabit the Dangriga/Stann Creek area to the Mayan and Mistizos who live in the highlands, you’ll find a wonderful mixture of friendly and peaceful people to make your stay even more enjoyable. Go to the Cayo District for meandering rivers, lush jungles, thundering waterfalls, huge cave systems and two of Belize’s most important Mayan ruins. Take a short 30-minute flight over the reef to Ambergris Caye and walk the dirt streets of San Pedro, barefoot of course. Go to Punta Gorda and see the Belize that’s hasn’t hit the tourist map yet. Visit the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, founded in 1990 as the first wilderness sanctuary for the jaguar. Above all, enjoy the people and the diversity that is Belize!
